Diane Hansen on 1/28 reported via e-mail: Thanks to Margaret's post I was able to see the Trumpeter Swans in South Elgin around 1:30. They were on the ice even with the south edge of the fenced ball field. I didn't have time to trudge down to look for the pintails.

Margaret Mechtenberg on 1/28 reported via phone: On the river near SEBA Park in South Elgin, four Trumpeter Swans. Further south on the Fox River Trail, near Woodcliff, the yard with the railroad paraphernalia, two Northern Pintails.


Anne Duck on 1/26 reported via e-mail: Lucky to see the flock of about 15 pheasants along Peck Rd at 12:30 pm on Friday! What a beautiful sight! All of the cars slowed to watch!


Paul Miessler on 1/21 reported via e-mail: There are two flocks of pheasants [in Geneva] along the W side of Peck Rd, one at Peck and Prairie View, and the other at Peck and Heartland. Good to see! I suspect someone is feeding them.


Bob Andrini on 1/15 reported via e-mail: We didn't get the Pileated Woodpecker at Hannaford Woods FP, but did see a Red-headed Woodpecker there on our walk Tuesday.

Bill Ahlgren on 1/15 reported via e-mail: I found this Northern Shrike along Lasher Rd. in Kaneville IL on Monday 1/14/19. Saw another along Seavey Rd. about an hour earlier in the day.

John Heneghan on 1/2 reported via IBET: Had 100 Sandhills fly over the yard at low altitude in Big Rock (Kane) heading SE.


Theresa LeCompte on 1/1 reported via e-mail: While at Culver's Forest Preserve on New Year's Day, Sue Schneider and I spotted Sandhill Cranes flying south over the preserve. We counted a total of 243 birds within two flocks.
